Bhebhe claims that he was setting the record straight when he accused his former-party's Secretary General, Professor Welshman Ncube, of colluding with Zanu (PF) members to derail the MDC-'s democratic project. (Pictured: NKAYI - Former Nkayi South Member of the House of Assembly, Abdenico)Addressing his supporters at Somlembe Village in Nkayi, Bhebhe said MDC-M was sympathising with Zanu (PF) and that was the major cause of their fight. Bhebhe mentioned a number of reasons to corroborate the alleged sympathy. He said towards the election of the speaker of parliament he was approached by a number of Zanu (PF) members, whom he mentioned by name, to strike a deal with him that they vote for Paul Themba Nyathi instead of Lovemore Moyo.
Themba Nyathi was the candidate put forward by the MDC-M faction led by Professor Ncube, while Moyo, the eventual winner was put forward by MDC-T. Zanu (PF) did not put forward a candidate and voted for the losing Nyathi. At his rally, Bhebhe, directed most of his vitriol on Professor Ncube, accusing him of dictatorial tendencies and turning back the hands of their “democratic struggle.”
“Welshman is associating with Zanu (PF). If he was a good person he would have come here to Nkayi and told you, that what I am doing is wrong. They chased me from my seat but whose seat is it anyway. I was given that seat by the people of Nkayi not him,” he said to cheers from the crowd. However, when contacted for comment, Ncube affirmed his commitment to the MDC.
“These are baseless accusations. Bhebhe is just looking for attention. I am not a Zanu (PF) person I am MDC-M,” said Ncube.
