CHITUNGWIZA The town council master physical plan has gone missing, amid allegations that it was destroyed by the town fathers.“We do not know what happened to the town plan, but it is no longer in our records. Someone very powerful probably took it so as to allocate stands,” said a source in Marondera.
Presently the town of Chitungwiza does not have a town planner. A fruitless visit to the town planning offices was frustrated by the refusal of workers to talk to the press.
When contacted for comment the Mayor of Chitungwiza, Alderman Chipiyo, said he was unaware of the missing plan, but referred all questions to the Town Clerk, Godfrey Tanyanyiwa, who did not pick up his phone.
The MDC, which controls the local councils, said that it was investigating its councillors over rampant corruption that has seen most of Chitungwizas open space being taken for residential stands.
