The money is aimed at improving education, sanitation and health of less privileged children. SOS Childrens Village in Kensington used the money to sink a borehole. Speaking at the handover ceremony, the district governor for Rotary International, Stallard Mpata, said the reason for the donations was to uplift those who were struggling the most. The electric borehole will assist young people from the SOS Village to start other projects such as gardening that attracts income so that they can be self-sufficient, he said.

SOS Childrens Village Director, Delany Dube, paid tribute to Rotary International, adding that the gesture would go a long way in assisting children. It will help children start a new life and to be productive members of society. Other stakeholders in the business community should follow suit in assisting other underprivileged members in society, he said. St Francis Home for the disabled also received a consignment of goods including food and blankets valued at US$6 000. The home has been struggling to operate and has been affected by the shortage of psychiatry specialists.
