Town Clerk faces arrest

informal_traderVICTORIA FALLS - An arrest warrant has been issued against the Victoria Falls Town Clerk for defying a court order directing the town's municipality to stop confiscating wares of informal traders.

Victoria Falls municipality police have been barring informal traders, especially those dealing with foodstuffs and beverages, from conducting business at Emaplankeni market, popularly known as COMESA.

Council police argued that a licence for the market barred traders from selling foodstuffs and beverages there. They confiscated items from traders in a bid to bar them from conducting their business. The traders approached the Courts seeking an order to stop the council from disturbing their business operations. An order was issued, but the municipality continued their crack down, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued for the Town Clerk.
