MARONDERA - War veterans at Igava farm have clashed with a Zanu (PF) councillor identified as Ganda, over a club house that has been turned into a shebeen by war veterans leader, Gerald Matengu.The councillor wants the club house to be turned into a church and a training centre for self-help projects. A suggestion vehemently opposed by Matengu and male Zanu (PF) supporters who were allocated plots in the Igava area.
“The club house has been turned into a shebeen and a brothel. Farmers no longer have time to do agriculture activities as they spend valuable time drinking and engaging in prostitution. HIV/AIDS cases are rising sharply and we can not allow the situation to continue unchecked,” said Jestina Mayo, a mother of five.
Commercial sex workers from surrounding farms have set up camp at the club house. They entertain male clients for US$2 per night.
