Windfall for Soccer Star of the Year finalists, winner to walk away with US$4000-00

cbz_logo_wideHARARE- CBZ- the sponsors of the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League have announced the prize money for this year's Soccer Star of the Year finalists, with the overall winner set to pocket a cool US$ 4000-00.

Sports Writers Association of Zimbabwe (SWAZ) treasurer, Phillemon Mhlanga announced the prizes for this year’s outstanding players yesterday. According to the break down of the prize money, the first runner up will walk away US$2000-00 richer with the second runner up set to take home US$1400-00. Eight other finalists will get US$800-00 each.

The top goal scorer will take home US$1100 so will the goalkeeper of the year winner. There is also a prize for the coach of the year who will get US$2000-00 with the referee of the year also getting the same amount. A panel of local football writers will select the eleven finalists on November 21. The overall winner will be announced at a special banquet on 17 December.

“We are greatful for the sponsors for coming up with these awards.” said Mhlanga. ” These are good incentives and we hope CBZ will continue to sponsor these awards. It motivates the players. We are going to have a pre-selection meeting on Saturday and choose the outstanding players on November 21,” said Mhlanga.

Mhlanga, however, said they were still to decide the venue for the selection process. A number of players are vying for the coveted Soccer Star of the Year Award. Big CAPS United striker Nyasha Mushekwi, who has netted an incredible 21 league goals so far is tipped to win the overall award while Dynamos’ Cuthbert Malajila, CAPS United’s Gilbert Mapemba, Tafadzwa Rusike, Monoz trio of Chris Semakweri, Muthulisi Maphosa and Daniel Zokoto are dark horses in the race.
