Zimbabweans to star for Pretoria University

soccer_playJOHANNESBURG Four Zimbabwean star football players are set to feature for South African National First Division (NFD) side Pretoria University Football Club when the much awaited Nedbank Cup knock-out tournament comes to life next month, head coach Steve Baker told CAJ News Agency last week.

In an interview on the sidelines of the Nedbank Cup NFD preliminary draw at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) offices in Johannesburg, Baker said he would introduce four Zimbabwean players in his starting line-up to ensure that the Pretoria-based football club sails to the finals of the competition for the second year running.

Pretoria University were last year’s Nedbank Cup losing finalists after PSL side Moroka Swallows edged them 0-1 at the Rand Stadium.

The four Zimbabweans who will feature for the TUKS, as Pretoria University are known among supporters, include prolific striker Obert Moyo, tough defender Leo Kurauzvione, acrobatic goalkeeper Tendai Tanyanyiwa and Tatenda Dondo.

I have three Zimbabwean players in the starting line-up Leo Kurauzvione, Obert Moyo and Dondo. The trio is part of my winning team and I hope to use them when this tournament kicks off on December 16, said the coach.

Speaking on the same occasion Nedbank group sponsorship head Andy Scott said they were happy to bankroll the tournament for the third year in a row, saying they hoped to see the good relationship between the PSL and Nedbank continue.

For the clubs and players participating in the first round it marks the beginning of another thrilling Nedbank Cup season. With a berth in the last 32 on offer to the winners the reward for success is significant. Perhaps this is the start of yet another giant-killing march to the final, said Scott.
