HARARE - Sports Writers Association of Zimbabwe (SWAZ) is set to reveal the 2009 Soccer Star of the year Award winner at a banquet in Harare, tonight. The 11 outstanding players who will be eyeing the US$4 000 prize money are Farayi Vimisai (Hwange), Norman Maroto, Ramson Zhuwawo, Tafadzwa Dube (Gunners), Method Mwanjali, Tafadzwa Rusike, Nyasha Mushekwi (Caps United), Mthulisi Maphosa, Christopher Samakweri (Monomotapa), Cuthbert Malajila (Dynamos) and Thabani Kamusoko (Njube Sundowns).
It will be the entire elevens hope to win the prize after working hard for their teams this season. After suffering what some soccer fans termed an unfair selection of the final 11 by SWAZ, Gunners talented midfielder, Zhuwawo, stands a good chance of being honoured this year.
He has been consistent in his performance in the past two soccer seasons and such a prestigious award will be befitting such a hard worker. Kamusokos team, Njube Sundowns, is teetering on the verge of relegation with a task to shackle off the force of gravity in the play-offs this month.
The dreadlocked striker who has impressed even in his sides losing moments does not see his side falling into the dungeon. We will fight to maintain our place in the premiership, I dont see myself playing in Division One, said an optimistic Kamusoko.
