$55,000 exit package for secretary

us_dollars_cashZVISHAVANE The Town Council has agreed to give its former secretary, Alphonce Chimombe, a Nissan Hardbody truck as part of his exit package which has been pegged at US$55 000, the Acting Town Secretary, Allan Chaparadza has said.

Chaparadza said the Chimombe case had been concluded by mutual agreement.

He was dismissed. The verdict by the Local Board was that Chimombe was to continue staying in the council house until February 2010. He was also to take the Nissan Hardbody with him as part of the package. His exit package, for the record, is $55 000 not $430 000 as alleged by some certain mischievous individuals, he said.

Sources close to the council have refuted reports that the former town secretary had been fired as alleged. They said the council refused to re-engage him despite the Local Board’s advice.

The sources said the council management and councillors were reluctant to re-engage Chimombe as he would frustrate their plans of abusing council funds and resources.

“Chimombe is a strict man. That is the only reason why the council did not want him. They know very well their free spending will end if they allow him to return,” said the source.
