Bhebhe spared jail term

abednico_bhebheBULAWAYO - Troubled former Nkayi South legislator, Abednico Bhebhe (pictured), has been spared a jail term and fined for insulting police officers who ticketed him for talking on his cell phone whilst driving.

Bulawayo Magistrate, Sophie Matimba convicted Bhebhe for contravening section 16 (a) of the Rules of the Road and Bhebhe pleaded not guilty to the charge. However, Magistrate Matimba fined him US$40 for talking over his mobile phone whilst driving and US$200 (or four months in jail) for criminal nuisance after he became violent with police officers who ticketed him.

He was given an additional three months in prison wholly suspended for five years on condition that he was not convicted of a similar offence within that period.
