Vanessa Hadebe, crowned in September, hosted the three-course charity dinner gala in London, which featured a performance by Zimbabwean singer Oluhle.

Hadebe was due to fly to Zimbabwe this month for the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe finals, but these have now been put back to February, after organisers said they wanted to repackage the pageant to take advantage of the 2010 World Cup.

So, the beauty queen, who is studying IT at Brunel University, has time to focus on raising money, which she will donate to her chosen charity.

Her mum, Sizeni Hadebe, said: She is quite keen on the charity work and I hope Zimbabweans will come out for her and show her support.

Fugama Unamate and Zvinosiririsa star Oluhle headlined the entertainment, with a host of other up-and-coming Zimbabwean singers, including Afro Face and Flo Smith.

Guests were treated to a fashion show, traditional dances and a comedy set.
