The decision was taken after the Zimbabwe Football Associations general assembly meeting over the weekend created a fourth first division league Central Region. The new region incorporates teams from the Midlands and Matabeleland South, adding to the Southern Region, Eastern Region and Northern Region.
The decision also means that this years play-offs between first division regional runners up and the team finishing 13th in the Premiership are the last. Former Premiership sides Chrome Stars, Chapungu, Ziscosteel and Tongogara, BVM, Gweru Pirates, Mimosa, Silo United, Mateta, Eagles, Hardbody and Rutendo Stars are some of the teams likely to make the new region. Border Strikers and Beitbridge Tigers will come from Matabeleland South.
Premier Soccer League chairman Tapiwa Matangaidze, Zifa chief executive officer Henrietta Rushwaya and the three regional chairmen Solomon Mugavazi (Northern Region), Mandaza (Southern Region) and Fungai Chihuri (Eastern Region) chaired the delimitation committee for the new region.
