Addressing members of the civic society here this week, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office, Gorden Moyo, said the government was currently working out the modalities of compensation.
“The government is going to reimburse all those people whose Zimbabwean dollars were frozen in their accounts .The affected people will be reimbursed in foreign currency at the exchange rate of the day. As a government we have already agreed, and as soon as the money is available, disbursements will be done,” said Moyo.
Although the country is facing financial problems, Moyo stated that it was the duty of the government to find the money to compensate the affected people. Scores of people lost their money in banks during the height of the economic crisis in the country when the Reserve Bank Governor, Gideon Gono, on numerous occasions devalued the local currency in a bid to contain inflation.
