Former PSL secretary general, Chris Sambo, told ***The Zimbabwean this week that there were fears that the league could run without a sponsor next season. Sambo said companies were already drawing up their budgets for next year while leaders to deal with issues of sponsorship were yet to be found.
“These things need proper planning. Once companies have drawn up their budgets it means you will be out of their budget. This is what is going to happen to the PSL because there is a leadership vacuum at the moment,” said Sambo.
The PSL was disbanded two months ago after the country’s 16 clubs agreed to do away with the topflight league management
.
While the idea is in line with international standards, it will be a real challenge for the board to secure a sponsor for the league for next year given the timing of the decision
to set up an independent board.
