MDC supporters evicted

mdc__chMARONDERA - MDC supporters living at a local rural council compound, have been evicted by Zanu (PF) councillor for ward one, Cephas Mashayamombe.

The MDC supporters provoked Mashayamombes anger after they successfully restructured party organs in the ward on November 15. Zanu (PF) connived with the rural council chief executive, Tendai Gundo, to evict the supporters from council houses. The council employs less than 10 workers and rents out more than 150 vacant housing units to tenants.

The chief executive, Gundo, is a suspected CIO operative and does not tolerate MDC employees at the council. Last year he was instructed by Zanu (PF) Member of Parliament for Marondera East, Tracy Mutinhiri, to fire workers holding posts in the MDC. More than 160 families stand to be evicted from the council houses early this month, said a council employee.

The rural council is mainly sustained by rentals paid by the evicted tenants and the business community in rural areas and surrounding farms.
