Major Phikelephi Dube, 44, who is employed by the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), appeared before Masvingo magistrate, Stanford Mambanje, facing charges of theft. Dube pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to December 17, 2009.
The court heard how Dube, who had access to the storeroom keys, stole various tools and electrical goods before loading the property into his personal vehicle. He took the items to his home.
The property included a wheel barrow, a hosepipe, four x 20 litres empty tins of paint, a shovel, a pick, a rake, one PVC pipe, a garden fork, a geyser, two bath tabs, four fluorescent fittings, four fluorescent tubes, eight bib tapes, one x 15 amp MCBs and two x 20 amp MCBs. Also recovered were four x 3 lever locksets and two canvas S tanks.
