The reality TV star said polygamy was rampant among many cowardly Zimbabwean men too ashamed to go public about their “small houses.”
Makosi said: People are up in arms because Jacob Zuma has married a third wife.
For me, a third wife is better than a concubine … all married African men have a concubine, and we should be thankful that some are just honest about it, like Zuma.
The polygamous South Africa President married his third wife two weeks ago with a fourth on the horizon. President Zuma has been married five times and has 19 children.
It is alleged Zuma plans to wed again soon, his fianc, Bongi Ngema.
Traditionalist Zuma was blasted by womens groups and health campaigners who say polygamy degrades women and his polygamous marriages are hindering an HIV/Aids campaign for men to keep a single partner and reduce promiscuity.
But Zumas supporters say polygamy is part of Zulu tradition, and insist the President has done nothing wrong.
Makosi said: I dont know how to say this without upsetting someone, but few married African men can stand up and claim they have never cheated. In Zimbabwe, they actually have a name for the second or third wife small house’. Its a poor attempt to disguise or sanitise polygamy. This is why we should support Zuma for being an honest man, and refusing to brand his lovers small houses or some other such terms.
So the moral indignation over Zumas polygamy is a phoney protest. Let the African man who is without sin cast the first stone.
In the simplest terms a small house is defined by many Zimbabweans as; an informal, long-term, secret sexual relationship with another woman who is not a man’s legal wife, carried on in a house that is a smaller version of the man’s own home in another residential suburb.
