Restorativejusticeinvolvesthereturnofeitherstolenpropertyortheseekingforforgivenessbytheperpetratorsandvictiswillingnesstoletbygonesbebygones.
Ontheotherhandretributivejusticemakessurethatallthosewhoperpetratedcrimesarelegallybroughttobook.Itishoweverunfortunatethatthesetwofundamentalprocesses
arenotwithinthevocabularyoftheOrganonNationalHealing.Theattainabilityoffeasiblenationalhealingcannotcomefromsimpleannouncementsorstatementsit
needscomprehensiveengaementoftheordinarypeoplewhowerepartandparceloftheviolencethatmanifestedinthepreviouselections.
Theprocessisdoomedtofailforitistakingatop?downdimensionwhereasitwassupposedtoassumedown?topdimension,bothperpetratorsandvictimsareordinarypeople
andnotthepoliticalelitethereforeitdefieslogicandalsoatantamountoamisconceptionfortheprocesstobeconfinedtothetophierarchyinthegovernmentofnationalunity.
InorderfortheNationalHealingprocesstobearfruitconcertedeffortsandcommitmentfromthepoliticalpartyleadersandteirsupportersshouldbecentral
andthisshouldbecomplementedbyclearlydefinedstrategiesonhowbestthiscanbeachievedTheNationalhealingprocessshouldhavebeenspearheaded
byothercivicbodiesnamelycivilsociety,thechurchoraindependentcommissioncomprisingofeminentandnotconfirmedpoliticalpartyfunctionariesamong
othersinoderforittobemeaningful,thefactthatpoliticiansareleadingthisprocesswhenonewayortheothertheyweretheoneswhocanbeattributedto
haveeenthechiefinstigatorsofpoliticalviolenceduringtheJune27electionperiodisunfortunate.Itisonthesepremisesthatthepublicwillremainskepticaland
failtoembracetheauthenticityoftheteamthatwasmandatdtospearheadthisprocess.Theteamtaskedtocarryoutthisprocesshastofightthepoliticalpolarization
thatthecountrycurrentlyexperiencessothayouthscanuniteandhealfirst.Youthsprojectsshouldbefundedtoreducedependence,therebyenhancingeconomic
independence.Thebureaucracyinvolvedinaccessingtheyouthfundshouldbeminimizedsothatthedeservingprojectsgetthoseloans.WeatBuildABetter
YouthZimbabwebelievethatthereshouldbeatimeframeofengagementinseekingforgiveness,centersfortestimonialsshouldbeopenedineveryward
werebothvictimsandperpetratorsshouldgoandtestifyofwhattheirnvolvementwasinthetimeofmadness.Weproposeatwoyearperiodforthis
processandafterwardsthosewhodidnottestifywillbedraggedbeforeacompetentcourtoanswertothechargesleveledagainstthembytheirvictims.
