Health experts give assistance

MUTARE - A ten-member team of health experts from the Netherlands is expected in the country at the beginning of February to assist health delivery systems.

The health experts, who will operate from the Haarlem Mutare city project, will be working in councils clinics and health centres. Head of the delegation, Praia Barchans, said the media should play a leading role in the fight against various epidemics. The team will be in the country from February and we are expecting to be there for six months. We will also be working under the auspices of the World Health Organization, he said.

Barchans urged the media in the country to impart knowledge on the cause, prevention and cure of the various diseases. We call on journalists to disseminate factual information about the various disease to ensure complete eradication of the epidemics, he said. He said the media had to complement efforts of the health personnel involved in the fight against such epidemics.

The team will provide technical expertise, hold workshops to educate people on the management and prevention of various diseases. We will conduct a series of meetings around the city teaching people prevention and management cases, said Barchans. The ten-member delegation will also assess setbacks and loopholes existing in managing epidemics.
