Land rows between Zanu and Zapu

BULAWAYO - Farmers resettled at Dabshan Ranch Farm in Insiza North have accused top Zanu (PF) officials in Matabeleland of causing complications in the land row they are involved in with Chief Solomon Jahana Khumalo.

Angeline Masuku, the governor has, however, dismissed the allegations as false and misconstrued. In a development that has brought a new twist to the Dabshan Ranch Farm land

row, the farmers have accused Masuku, Insiza Senator, Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu, and other Zanu (PF) officials – whom they said had links with the revived Zapu – of trying to secure land for Chief Khumalo and his followers. The farmers, who are mostly Zanu (PF) supporters, have said the coming of Chief Khumalo entourage to the area was linked to the revival of Zapu, alleging that it was an effort to dilute Zanu (PF) influence in the Insiza North constituency.

The chief’s entourage numbers about 8 000. Masuku refuted the allegations that resettling Chief Khumalo and his people was a political move. “That is not the issue. In our last meeting we made it clear that everyone has a right to occupy that land regardless of where they come from,” said Masuku. Opposing Masuku, the Zanu (PF) Ward 21 Chairman, Tawanda Masendeke, alleged that resettling Chief Khumalo was an attempt by the politicians to dilute the influence of Zanu (PF) in the Insiza North constituency.

“There are top Zapu officials within Zanu (PF) who are trying to weaken Zanu (PF) in Insiza North. I’m not afraid to inform you that the likes of Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu, Chief Vezi Maduna and Vakatsha Langa are trying to destroy Zanu (PF) in Insiza,” said Masendeke.
