Johannesburg - Comrades marathon hopefulls will get the last chance to take part in the lucrative race when entries reopen on Saturday morning 30 January 2010 at 09h00.
The entries will only be accepted at Mr Price Clothing, Sport and Home Stores countrywide. Entries will close as soon as 2,000 entries have been received. This means that if the 2,000 available spots are taken up within the first hour, entries will then close as and when the 2,000 mark is reached. This is the final entry intake and no further opportunities will be created after this period,” said Dave Dixon, Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) Board Chairman said.
No fax, postal or online entries will be accepted . The CMA has appealled to runners who still wish to enter for the 2010 Comrades Marathon, to make sure that they are at a Mr Price Store early on Saturday 30 January 2010. No correspondence will be entered into if runners miss this opportunity Zimbabwean athletes are favoured to stamp their dominance again in the 85th anniversary of the annual race. Marco Mambo is one of the Zimbabwean athletes who has dominated South African races since 2001, having been crowned champion of the 2004, 2005, and 2008 Two Oceans Marathon.
His countryman, Elijah Mutandiro also boasts an impressive record, with two victories in the Nedbank Soweto Marathon and they are expected to shine again. The Comrades Marathon is run annually between the Kwazulu-Natal province -Pietermaritzburg, and the coastal city of Durban. Zimbabwean long distance running sensation Stephen Muzhingi won the 2009 edition of the race. The veteran runner emerged from the race R220 000 richer after clocking in at 5:23:26 sec the second fastest time ever in the races 84 year history.
