The gifted striker was the torchbearer of the Dynamos team that lost the championship to modest Gunners last season. The former Highlanders and Chapungu marksman banged an incredible 19 league goals for DeMbare last season despite the fact that he spent almost a month away in Belgium attending trials.
He eventually finished joint second top goalscorer with Gunners hitman Norman Maroto. CAPS United big striker Nyasha Mushekwi won the Golden Boot Award after scoring 22 goals.
But Malajila, who wept uncontrollably after Dynamos were beaten to the Nestle Charity Shield trophy by bitter rivals CAPS United, said in an interview this week it was disappointing that his team failed to land any major silverware on offer last season.
He said his main target this season was to lead his team to the winners podium at the end of the season. “Frankly speaking I am a disappointed man because I have not won any major silverware either with Dynamos, Highlanders or Chapungu. I played for all these teams but I have not achieved anything, said the free scoring striker.
He added: I think you understand that it is painful if you do not win anything wherever you are playing. For me its the same and I think last season it was even worse because we led the race from the start only for Gunners to pip us to the title at the end.
It’s really painful. But I hope this season we will get it right. My aim is to make sure we win the league title and go as far as possible in the African Champions Leauge. If we manage that I will be the happiest man on earth.”
Malajila was the hero again during the Senior Cosafa Challenge tournament scoring four goals in the tournament which Zimbabwe won for a record fourth time after beating Zambia 3-1 in the final.
He finished as the top goalscorer of the tournament a feat which saw him walking into the Hall of Fame as he eclipsed the legendary Peter Ndlovu who managed to score three goals during his hey day in the Cosafa tournament.
