Beauty Kufamba said since schools opened last week on Wednesday, she has not managed to enrol her son in a high school because of the many demands for the non-national students.
The situation if compounded further by the fact that many of the children crossed the border illegally and some do not have proper legal identification, which is a prerequisite for learner registration.
Another parent, Mercy Mushape, based in Soshanguve described the situation as hopeless. I do not know what I am going to do. They are demanding legal documentation, which I never had. They tell us to go to the police to fill affidavits we cant surrender ourselves at the police stations we are afraid of deportations back to Zimbabwe.
One school principal based in Pretoria central who spoke to The Zimbabwean off record said that since the beginning of the term they had received numerous applications from non- citizens, but most do not have the legal requirements to be enrolled into the educational system.
