Teachers in Msinga district, Newcastle, Dundee and areas around Pietermaritzburg said they had been accused of stealing jobs from the locals.
We teach difficult subjects like mathematics, science and computers that the local teachers can not teach, said an affected teacher.
The workers have been queuing at their respective schools in the hope that their contracts will be renewed.
“As I speak to you right now, I am seated outside the classroom, said one male teacher from Dundee.
The KZN Department of Education Spokesman, Sihle Mlotshwa, said he would investigate the claims.
“We recruit foreign teachers based on their skills in mathematics, science and computers, but if there are any serious allegations of xenophobia coming from the local people, then we should investigate them. Even if those claims of stealing jobs are true, the public has to know that this is not the true reflection of what is happening at the department of education,” said Mlotshwa.
There were also serious allegations of foreigners receiving half the money that the local teachers received as their salary.
