ZAPU and MDC-M Merger?

dumiso_mutambaraThis issue is bound to catch MDC-T and ZANU PF flat footed. (Pictured: Dumiso Dabengwa and Arthur Mutambara)

MDC-T and ZANU PF have very opposing prayers when it comes to the re-emergence of ZAPU.To start with the re-emergence of ZAPU threatens the very base from which MDC-T is very strong in Bulawayo and Matebeleland. This is just a fact. I know ZAPU members would be quick to jump and say hey we are a national party and not a regional party . As for ZANU PF they dont care much if this proposed merger fact materializes as they stand to gain by MDC-Ts loss in a region were ZANU PF has never commanded any support since 1980.

There is NOTHING wrong being a regional party that serves interests of the people that have elected you. It appears people in Zimbabwe have been programmed in this so called lets unite in order to re-build Zimbabwe. This is the very notion that has made both ZANU PF and MDC-T become very arrogant and very selfish when it comes to the GPA negotiations.

These 2 parties are holding the nation at ransom by dragging their feet and by just being outright selfish. More so with ZANU than MDC-T.

New Party

I wonder what this party would be called and what structure it will take. Someone suggested this interim structure until voters choose office bearers.

President : Dumiso Dabengwa

Vice : Arthur Mutambara

Sec. General ; Welshman Ncube

Finance : David Coltart

Chairperson : Priscilla Misihairabwi

Committee Member : Lovemore Madhuku

The next stage would be to lure and attract progressive but discontent members from both MDC-T and ZANU PF to beef up the party. This third party will hold the ace to ensure that both ZANU and MDC do not take the country to the dogs again through their greed and over expenditure. And the great part is that the new party will make both ZANU and MDC take voters seriously.

Why the merger?

Of course detractors will start shooting down the inevitable merger by saying Mutambara will not accept a vice president position. MDC-M and ZAPU can find strength in coming together because their individual profiles are NOT complete. MDC-M does NOT have much liberation war credentials which ZANU may use to discredit the new party, ZAPU has no progressive new blood, a point which MDC-T may use to discredit them. So a blend of these two will produce a very moderate party with a combined strength and quality that both MDC and ZANU cannot match combined.

Dead wood

Naturally and obviously those who stand to be affected negatively by the merger will react very strongly .Besides MDC-T and ZANU members , some members of these 2 smaller parties might not want to give up their positions in the new party. As such that is to be expected and we are ready to deal with that this usually from dead wood within parties who will want to resist a productive merger at all costs.

Elections – 2011

Elections in Zimbabwe are inevitable within 18 months and fact is BOTH ZAPU and MDC-M risk extinction if they attempt to contest as separate parties by splitting the vote. So this merger offers a unique opportunity of both parties to leverage on each others strengths while overcoming their individual and inherent weaknesses.

Window of opportunity

Both ZANU and MDC are not at their strongest. ZANU is being rocked by party factions at provincial levels. MDC is being rocked by scandals and corruption across the board and the average MDC supporter is slowly losing faith in the opposition MDC. ZANU faces an imminent split the day their present leader has to be succeeded one day. That day will come and am not sure if MDC is aware of the opportunities and risks that will come with this as they are busy getting used to the gravy train of running and controlling finances while the povo goes for days with no electricity !

Shocker

ZANU and MDC are taking people for granted, gambling with peoples minds, emotions and lives. The buck stops here.
