Benjani seeks first Sunderland goal

Benjani has enjoyed more game time at Sunderland since his move to the club early this month but is yet to find the back of the net despite being used as a substitute on three occasions. Last Saturday, he did not see much action, replacing Kenwyne Jones in the 79th minute in a match that saw his side suffering a 0 2 defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce, has indicated that Benjani should expect to play a bigger role and this is likely to see him being given more game time against Fulham this weekend.

Mwaruwaris move from Manchester City was prompted by his failure to command a regular first team place in a team that included the likes of Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor and former Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez.

His move to Sunderland might revive his waning career and the Warriors kingpin has expressed hope for a permanent switch to Sunderland. I am enjoying my time here and would be happy to stay longer after the loan finishes, so it is important for that to happen that the club stays in the Premier League and continues to go forward, Mwaruwari told Sunderlands official website.

The 2009/10 season is proving to be the worst for the Zimbabwean striker, who has only scored a single goal. After rising to become one of the most feared strikers in the French topflight league while still at Auxerre, Benjani scored 15 goals in the English Premiership for Portsmouth in the 2007/ 08 season but has struggled to rediscover the same form.
