The men were reacting angrily to a story entitled Town clerk destroys municipality carried recently in ***The Zimbabwean. In it, Chombo was accused of employing Zanu (PF) sympathizers to the municipality. He subsequently brought a ZBC news crew to film Kanyamas house before airing it on a ZBC news bulletin for three days, alleging that Kanyama had corruptly allocated himself a stand which was supposed to be a crche.
Kanyama is a vibrant, young MDC councillor who is working tirelessly to bring change to the Zengeza community. He works hard to ensure that garbage is collected on time and broken sewerage pipes are repaired or replaced.
In addition to this he is Chitungwiza Municipality Chairperson of the General Purpose Committee which oversees service delivery and the allocation of stands. Kanyama is also vigorously campaigning to become MDC-T youth chairperson for Chitungwiza province. This has provoked the anger of the incumbent MP Alexio Musundire, who is suspected to have switched sides to Zanu (PF).
Chombo is well known for offering irresistible perks and luxuries to MDC strongmen in order to infiltrate its rank and file. In 2004, Sekesai Makwavarara, then Deputy Mayor of Harare, was offered a farm and a council mansion before crossing the line to join Zanu (PF).
Musundire has been seen frequenting Chombos offices, although it is a known fact that Chombo has nothing but dislike for MDC councillors.
In his defence, Kanyama said: It is in the local governance statutes that every elected councillor without a house in his ward must have one in the same ward and I legally acquired the said residential stand in this regard.
Records available to ***The Zimbabwean showed that Kanyama bought stand number 19057 Receipt number 568665 for Z$3 billion cash on 15 December, 2008. It was signed by J. Gumbo, then Director of Housing and Community Services.

CHITUNGWIZA - In a desperate bid to save their battered image, Ignatius Chombo, Joseph Made, Pedzisai Ruhanya and a group of rowdy Zanu (PF) youths stormed the homestead of MDC councillor for Ward 10, Tineyi Kanyama, and started filming his house.
