The journalist were ordered out of the meeting held at Masvingo Polytechnic after party members started hurling insults at constitutional committee co-chairman Paul Mangwana, who they accused of conniving with MDC-T MPs to swindle the Constitutional Parliamentary Committee of thousands of dollars in allowances. As the shouting began, an unidentified war veteran told journalists to leave saying what was happening was a Zanu (PF) thing which the party did not want published in newspapers.
Can all the journalists excuse us at this time as this is a Zanu (PF) thing? We can see you are taking notes, but we are doing our things as a party and we do not want anything that is happening here to be written in the press, the war veteran said. Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA-Zimbabwe) provincial chairman Energy Bara condemned the ejection of journalists from the meeting. The meeting, according to Mangwana, was meant to launch the partys public education program on the upcoming constitution making process and to inform Zanu (PF) members about what to tell the constitutional outreach teams when they visit the province.
