Lengthens beat AS Adema of Madagascar in Caf Cup

footballHARARE-ZIMBABWE'S representatives in the Caf Confederation Cup tournament Lengthens shrugged off the challenge from Madagascar side AS Adema after beating them 2-1 in a pulsating preliminary round first leg tie at Rufaro yesterday.

Forgotten former Highlanders and Dynamos striker Admire Dzukamanja was the heroe for Lengthes as he scored the winning goal that seperated the two teams.

Lengthens were the first to get off the blocks as the found the net after only 17 minutes through striker Artwell Nyamhiwa who had a good outing for Lengthens in this lively contest. But Lengthens celebrations were shortlived as the visitors drew level at the resumption of the second half through the boot of Reberanje Guy Rene who was clearly unmarked in the danger zone.

The visitors appeared to be heading for a victory as they threatened the Lengthens goal area on many occasions. But Lengthens held fort and had Dzukamanja to thank as he netted the winning goal after he had come in as a subsitute.

Dzukamanja could not hide his joy after the match.

“It’s good to score especially at this level of the game. It gives confidence in the team. I want to thank the whole team for this victory. If we remain focused in this tournament I am sure we will go very far,” he said.

Lengthens head coach Mandla Masuku was also happy with the result but said they need to work hard on their defence in order to seal vcitory and progress to the next stage of the tournament.
