Chigabo reportedly reprimanded his sister for bringing a boyfriend to the family homestead without being formally married. Chigabo enjoyed respect from peers and adult neighbours given his official status. He was the towns role model. Every parent wished their children could behave like him, said a close neighbour.
At Rakodzi High School where he had just completed A levels, he was the pride of the school. He saw the character of his sister as not befitting a close relative of a junior city father, and decided to take his life,
The mayor of Marondera, Farai Nyandoro, and other councillors visited his home to express their condolences. Hundreds of schoolchildren, teachers and the city fathers attended the funeral at Chigabos home in Shurugwi.
As junior mayor, Chigabo represented youths on issues such as employment, child abuse and access to education.
