Family members told ***The Zimbabwean*** that the decomposed body of Khumbulani Dube (29), originally from the Gampu area of Plumtree, Matabeleland South, was discovered alongside that of the baby last Thursday. It was a shocking sight that one would not want to see again, said Philemon Moyo, speaking for the shocked family. They were both decomposed and beyond recognition, with heavy objects piled on top of them, leaving their lifeless bodies smashed. Dube was stabbed all over her body and then had her head tied up in plastic. The baby was stabbed through the stomach.
The woman worked as a vegetable vendor in Hillbrow, about 100 metres from her flat, which she shared with Sydney Simemene (33). Police are hunting Simemene in connection with the killing, according to police spokesman Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla. Simemene reportedly hired a vehicle to take him to Zimbabwe. We are following leads given to us by someone close and might arrest the culprit any time soon, said Mavundla.
Family members and friends said they had managed to raise R7,500 to pay for the two bodies to be taken home to Zimbabwe for burial. Our prayer now is for the murderer to be caught and made to face justice because he is a very dangerous person who cannot be allowed to live within society, said Moyo. We call upon anyone with information on where he is to rush to the police and make a report because someone who kills a three-month-old baby in such a cruel manner is no human being at all.
