Murambadoro defiant in face of relegation

murambadoro_witsJOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwe goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro (Pictured) is confident his South African club will avoid relegation from the Absa Premier League.

The in-form Mpumalanga Black Aces player said recent results have given him confidence that the club will remain in the elite league ahead of basement club Jomo Cosmos. We have been playing very well lately, and the fact that we havent lost a match in our last four matches speaks volumes for us,” the Gokwe-born goalkeeper told the clubs official website last week.

Murambadoro has been pivotal in Aces last four matches. He has helped Amazayoni to five points in that period as Aces drew 1-1 and 0-0 against Wits University (home) and AmaZulu (away) respectively, and then beat Maritzburg United 1-0 (at home) before they registered another goalless draw at home against Celtic.

“Our chances to avoid the dreaded relegation are still there, but for us to achieve that, we need to win our remaining match while at the same time cross our fingers that Cosmos lose theirs,” pointed out Murambadoro, who has scooped a number of Man of the Match awards since joining Aces from Wits. With one round of matches remaining, Aces are second-last in the 16-team log, a point above Jomo Cosmos. Aces need victory to maintain their Premiership status and pray that Cosmos falter. The team that finishes second-last qualifies for playoffs against first division teams to retain Absa Premieship status. The last-placed team is relegated to the first division.
