Mwaruwari joins Sunderland

He is a big, strong and powerful centreforward and one we have been tracking for a long time. I am delighted that we have managed to bring him to the club. He will bring another dimension to our striking options and will be a great addition to the club, he told the clubs website.

Meanwhile, the club expressed gratitude to the Premier League and the Football Association as the club completed the signing of the Zimbabwean striker from Manchester City on Tuesday .Sunderland chief executive Steve Walton told the media, “It has been well documented that we had horrendous problems with our communications network yesterday (Monday). We sent The Premier League and FA documentation showing the issues, which they reviewed and agreed that everything was in order, he said.

“We would like to sincerely thank them for their consideration and we are delighted that we have been able to finalise this deal.”

Walton added: “I would also like to thank our club secretary and legal director Margaret Byrne, who has been instrumental in helping the club complete its transfer business in the window.

The 31-year-old Warriors captain joins from City, where he had limited gametime following the signing of big names like Carlos tevez, Emannueal Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz, among others.
