No going back on expelled councillors

CHITUNGWIZA - MDC-T Deputy Organising Secretary, Morgan Komichi, has scoffed at the efforts by fired councillors here, who have said that ..........

their dismissal was unconstitutional, to seek audience with the Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

A group of the councillors, led by Mayor of Chitungwiza Alderman Philemon Chipiyo, have said that their dismissal was unfair and that they had asked Komichi to arrange a meeting with party President Morgan Tsvangirai.

Komichi scoffed at Chipiyos suggestions that the dismissal was unconstitutional.

“If they think that the MDC is not following the constitution then they are very much mistaken, the party can take a position and what would be left is for congress is to endorse the decision.

The MDC yielded the axe on the councillors who had disregarded the party by electing Chipiyo as the Mayor of the town ahead of Vincent Gwaradzimba who the party preferred.

Chipiyo and company have been reported as saying that their dismissal was a non-event. “Is that democracy, why should the party impose candidates on us we believe in elected leadership.

However, Komichi said that the party had divorced itself from the 23 councillors, and that he was tied of the rampant corruption in the town.

Unconfirmed reports say that the 23 councillors each received 10 stands which have been put under different names.
