Peter Ndlovu to call it a day

peter_ndlovuHARARE - Controversial and legendary former Zimbabwe captain Peter Ndlovu (Pictured) is set to hang his boots on July 11 to concentrate on an undisclosed business concern.

The skilled player who dazzled English soccer with his old school wing play in a career spanning over 20 years said he would announce his next plans at the end of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The tournament will run from June 11 to July 11.

The 36-year old player is currently attached to South Africa First Division side Thanda Royal Zulu. He was signed in 2008 after being offloaded by glamour club Mamelodi Sundowns.

I am not actively playing at Thanda Royal Zulu but I will be announcing my next move just after the World Cup. I am working on a project and I will announce what is during that time. I will call a press conference to make the announcement, Ndlovu told Football Focus.

A likeable and mischievous character off the pitch, Ndlovu has well documented history of failed relationships both at home and in foreign lands.

He also hogged the limelight for the wrong reasons particularly the highly publicized divorce to South Africa kwaito star Sharon D. He was again in the news last year, when he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his pregnant live-in girlfriend Pinky Duda.

Ndlovu said he had emerged stronger after all the messy things in his life. Those things have made me stronger. I am positive about life and I am enjoying my life, Ndlovu said.

The Flying Elephant has never been a favourite with South Africa media after information was leaked that he was the highest earning player in the premiership when he was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns in 2004 on his arrival from England.
