Zanu thug names members of assassination mission

zanu_assassinatorChilling confessions continue
MARONDERA - Last week a Zanu (PF) official, known as Chikanya, of Cherutombo suburb, stunned people here by confessing in detail the horrific crimes she and her fellow thugs had perpetrated against MDC supporters. She refused to be silenced by other officials.

As promised in The Zimbabwean on Tuesday, we continue to quote from her confession:

Losing Zanu (PF) councillor Mujaranji, youth leader Jeche, Rugwa, Douglas Chitekuteku and Marongedze will identify traitors and recommend appropriate action. I will approve the suggestions. This is how we dealt with Bakayimana. Had Bakayimana and Kainos been alive, Zimbabwe would be worse off as he advocated for equitable land distribution exercise benefiting white commercial farmers. We cannot accept that.

I am reeling under severe economic hardships because of Mayor Nyandoro, who has ordered his council workers to cut water supplies at my homestead. How does he expect me to survive without water supplies? Is it a crime to default payment of water bills? I am a civil servant earning peanuts. No ways, I will deal with the arrogant mayor tonight. I cannot seat idly while the MDC drives the economy underground. (Zanu (PF) yaramba kuti MDC itonge nyika ino.) Zanu (PF) cannot let this country be run by MDC. Never, ever.

If you think I am a pushover, be reminded that in our assassination mission, our operations are carried out by the following comrades, Lawrence Katsiru (Secretary for security Zanu (PF) and former council employee), Joramu Mbizi (Deputy secretary for security Zanu (PF) and council deputy chief fire and security officer), Mashayamombe (Councillor for ward one Marondera Rural), Bwanya (War veteran), Jambwa (Council employee), Tomboriro (Council employee), Nzuma (Municipal police), Mujati (Council employee), Kwananyai (Council employee), Mauto, Ngoni Makombe, Talusi (Council employee), Maxwell Masimba (Council bricklayer), Zimunya (Municipal police), Maphius Mutonhori (Council employee who abducted Marble Tenifara on 27 May 2008), Wiseman Pfende, Garikayi Nyamatombo, Taurai Sauti, Gift Midzi, Rinomhota (Municipal police), Wenfere (Municipal police), Sydney Shumai, the late CIO operative and CIO operative, Farai Machekanyanga, who abducted Bakayimana.

They used council firearms to terrorise suspected MDC supporters in the province. Mbizi used a council shotgun to terrorize villagers in Wedza district, farms like Igava, Watershed, Macheke and the Svosve rural area.

After addressing a crowd at the bus terminus Chikanya proceeded to make similar confessions at the district police offices where she manhandled some police officers.

Armed with her confessions, MDC officials visited the police station demanding that they be used as a basis to re-open the missing persons dockets on Bakayimana and Kainos.

The police promised to reopen the dockets, make thorough investigations and effect prosecutions where necessary. The Bakayimana case was recorded and referenced as A708-CR 204-5-2008. Kainoss docket is CR 244-5-08.

MDC officials requested the police to exhume human corpses from the shallow graves mentioned by Chikanya and also to resume retrieval of human remains from Wenimbe dam. The corpse retrieval exercise was stopped mid-stream by Zanu (PF) and state security agents last year, after 18 bodies had been recovered in Wenimbe Dam by the police sub-aqua squad last year. Fishermen continue to discover more human remains in the dam.

Residents fear Chikanya may be relocated elsewhere by Zanu (PF), to foil police efforts to investigate and effect possible arrests.

MDC officials cast doubt on the willingness of the police to handle the case professionally. They however indicated that credible police records would come in handy when the rule of law is restored after the Mugabe era.

Bakayimana is described as a brave MDC chairman who flew a party flag at his homestead without fear, at the height of Zanu (PF) terror campaign. In sympathy with the less privileged, he walked about bare foot, to share the suffering experienced by fellow victims of tyranny. This was despite his above average life style of living in an eight-roomed house. The district remembers Bakayimani as a gallant fighter for democracy.

Marondera MDC constituency, is struggling to find a suitable replacement for Bakayimani, as other cadres are failing to convincingly fit into his shoes.
