The head of the Asian business community, Gill Momeni, told The Zimbabwean that the creation of air links would greatly assist in rejuvenating Zimbabwes tourism sector. The importance of establishing airline links between the two countries cannot be underestimated, he said. There has been some effort to sign a Bilateral Air Service Agreement and with the effort being shown by the all inclusive government we will witness some tangible developments in this sector. Momeni underscored the desire of the Asian business community to assist in turning around the fortunes of Zimbabwes tourism industry.
We are ready to exchange experience and establish cooperation in the area of tourism and hospitality, he said, adding there would be renewal of all tourism memoranda of understanding. He added that the business people would not only offer funds but assist with provision of experts in various fields of tourism. We enjoy strong expertise in management of ancient sites and we are willing to assist Zimbabwe in the upkeep and repair of its historical ancient sites, he said.
The business envoy, however, emphasized the need for the local tourism industry to offer quality service and reasonable rates, noting these two important factors would help to entice visitors from the Asian countries to lengthen their stay in the country. In order to extend the period that tourists stay and earn the much needed foreign currency, there should be affordable travel expenses and hotel accommodation supported by quality services, he said.
