“Children of the Future Fight Club, was formed after realizing children were not aware of their rights. Meetings held by the club every weekend, enable members to identify and fight violations of their rights. Members are in a position to free peers from any abuse,” said club patron, Councilor ward 7, Dominic Matangira.

The club has 92 members from both sexes drawn from across town. Armed with UN Children Rights pamphlets, the children religiously study their rights at Matangira’s place.

“I know my rights as a child. I have a right to shelter, clothing, education, love, protection, food, medication, freedom of association, expression and others. It is an offence for anyone, even government to violate these rights. It is also my duty to protect other children’s rights from being abused,” said a five-year-old member of the club.

The children said they wanted to be given an opportunity, to express views in the making of a people driven constitution. They want their rights to be protected by the constitution.
