Cross dismisses Zanu (PF)

eddiecrossBULAWAYO - MDC national executive member, Eddie Cross, (Pictured) has dismissed claims by Zanu (PF) that Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has succumbed to pressure from the former ruling party and called for removal of targeted sanctions imposed by western countries.

The US and European Union recently extended targeted sanctions on Mugabe and his cronies for another year demanding a stop to violation of human rights, full implementation of the Global Political Agreement and media reforms.

Addressing a public meeting organized by Bulawayo Agenda on Saturday, Cross said his party leader has never passed a statement on the lifting of the targeted sanctions saying he was misquoted by the state media.

We had a national executive meeting last week where we also discussed claims by state media that our party president made such remarks but the president distanced himself from that. Our position in the party is that there are no sanctions against Zimbabwe but those sanctions were imposed on Zanu (PF) individuals who have been torturing and killing our people, said Cross

Zanu (PF) youths marched in Harare two weeks ago demanding that target sanctions imposed on their party leaders by western countries be removed. The youths claimed to have given the Prime Minister Tsvangirai an ultimatum to call for the sanctions removal.

Speaking at the same function, Zanu (PF) central committee member, Callistus Ndlovu said his party doesnt care about the extension of sanctions on its leaders as China had pledged to help them.

We dont care about the extension of sanctions by the western countries China is there to help us. These western countries pretend as if they dont know that China is fast a growing economic power house which has committed itself in helping neglected Africa countries, said Ndlovu.
