Mudzuri slams Zanu (PF) for culture of impunity

elias_mudzuriUZUMBA - Minister of Energy and Power Development, Elias Mudzuri, (Pictured) has blasted Zanu (PF) militia who blocked people from attending the commissioning of electricity at Mashambanhaka and Katiyo Clinics.

The militia wielding machetes and knokberries wanted the MP for the area, Simba Mudarikwa, to be given credit for the projects he did not contribute to.

A livid Mudzuri, who had been invited as Guest of Honour by the acting Chief Nyajinha, said the behaviour of the youths was deplorable, as the electrification of the two clinics was a community project that had nothing to do with politics.

Fearing the worst from the youths who had mounted roadblocks on routes leading to the venue, villagers who had contributed to the electrification of clinics chose not to attend the function.

“I was surprised to see youths stopping vehicles. We all know Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe, people are still very much afraid,” said Mudzuri.

Under instruction from Council Chairman Zvikomborero Manguo, the rowdy militia send word to 49 villages, who had combined money to buy three beasts that were supposed to be slaughtered at the function, that any MDC members who attended would suffer the consequences.

“I was shocked when I arrived at the venue to find no-one there. But I went there prepared because we are aware that UMP is a difficult place in terms of intimidation. Its the culture of impunity that makes Zanu (PF) militia think they take the law into their own hands,” said Mudzuri.

On his way to the clinic Mudzuri was stopped by the youths who wanted to know what he wanted in their domain.

“Hardcore supporters will always be there, these people will not stop as long as there are no curtailing measures, people could not come to the function as they felt threatened,” he said.
