Zimpapers sued

HARARE - H-Metro reporter, Trust Khoza, his editor, Lawrence Moyo, and the group, Zimpapers, are facing a US$10 million law suit for publishing an article in which they described a local junior school as a 'diamond mine'.

In the law suit filed by Vatal Junior School through Matsikidze and Mucheche legal practitioners, and seen by this publication, the four are accused of publishing defamatory statements which had a potential of shunning school children attending the school.

“US$10 million in damages is arising from the defamatory statement published by the defendants on 4 March 2010. In particular the defendants referred to the plaintiff as a ‘Diamond mine’ and ‘Cash Cow’ for its directors and employees. The school is likened to a diamond mine, typically Chiadzwa Diamond fields.

The statement has not been retracted and the defendants have not apologized either,” reads the law suit.
