ZINASU Vice President drags MSU to High Court.

zinasuThe Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) Vice president Cde Obert Masaraure has filed an urgent chamber application to the High Court in Harare seeking reprieve to present his project proposal on the 22nd of March 2010. The student leader was suspended on the 8th of March 2010 pending a hearing to be convened when the Universitys Students Disciplinary Committee (S.D.C)

In his affidavit filed to the High Court yesterday 18 March 2010 Masaraure states that he is in his final year studying BSc Honors in Chemical Technology and it is mandatory that he presents his project proposal before a panel of lecturers on the 22nd of March 2010 and if he misses such an opportunity he would have to wait for another academic cycle. He further states that he will not interfere with the investigations and will be confined to the venue of the presentations.

The firebrand student leader is being represented by Jeremiah Bamu of the Muchadehama, Mbizvo and Makoni and the case number is HC1706/10.The case will appear before the High Court tomorrow 20 March 2010.In the case Masaraure cites Midlands State University as the first respondent, Vice Chancellor Professor Bhebhe as the second respondent and the registrar Mr. Erasmus Mupfiga as the third respondent.

Masaraure was first suspended in February 2009 after leading the National Campaign Against the Dollarization of Education in Zimbabwe (NACADEZ) at the institution. ZINASU deplores the decision by the Bhebhe administration to suspend Masaraure who is only left with less than a year to complete his program, as an empty ploy to cripple the students unions fight for academic freedoms. There have been incessant and deliberate attempts by the State to cow into submission, students leaders and activists at institutions of higher learning despite the reality of the inclusive government.

ZINASU warns Bhebhe and his company that they may deviate from responsibility but they will not elope from justice. We therefore urge the High Court of Zimbabwe to show urgency and impartiality when dealing with the case and uphold justice.
