Ajax signed the former Zimbabwe national Under 17 skipper on a three-year contract in May last year, but the former Shooting Stars player missed out of the teams 2009/10 league campaign, as the Cape Town-based club had already exhausted its quota for foreign players. Speculation is rife in the South African media that Gutu could be loaned out by the Urban Warriors next season, but the clubs Assistant coach, Wilfred Mugeyi, told The Zimbabwean on Monday that this was based on false information.
There is nothing like that. Gutu is a brilliant player with a bright future ahead and fits perfectly well into our system, said the former Zimbabwe Warriors crack striker. We are not loaning him out to any team because we have him in our plans for next season. Just wait for the beginning of the 2010/11 season and you will see him in the thick of things for us.
Mugeyi, whose side also signed another Zimbabwean, Tafadzwa Rusike, revealed that further than loaning out Gutu, the club would instead release some foreign players already within their ranks, in order to accommodate the two Zimbabweans.
We have identified some players who played in the just-ended league season, whom we will release to accommodate the two and others that we are still chasing. I cannot release their names right now, but that is the position right now.
