Alderman Philemon Chipiyo confirmed to The Zimbabwean that he had been given a date for his installation.

“The coronation could have been carried out on the 10th of April but it was postponed because Chombo was not in the country, he said.

He said the minister had indicated that he did not want anybody else to do it, that is why the installation was not done in April.

Chipiyo, who got the position of Mayor while he was still an MDC member, was fired from the party and other 24 councillors, for corruption. However they remained in office because of the Urban Councils Act which states that councillors will have to finish their terms even if there are fired from the party they represented.

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai had called upon the Minister of Local Government to remove the whole council but Chombo had said he was going to investigate the matter.

Chipiyo was elected Mayor of Chitungwiza following the axing of the first mayor, Paul Marange, who was found guilty of corruption by the High Court.
