Chuma becomes assistant coach

HARARE- Former winger Simon Chuma has been appointed the new Dynamos assistant coach, replacing the departed Tonderayi Ndiraya.

Ndiraya was sacked following a fall out with head coach Elvis Chiweshe and Chuma joins goalkeepers’ coach Tichaona Diya as one of Chiweshe’s assistants. The club’s chairman of the board of directors, Richard Chiminya, confirmed the development. “He has not been appointed. He was promoted. He has been coaching our junior teams and as such, we have asked him just to go one step up the ladder,” Chiminya jockingly said.

Chuma will now reunite with Chiweshe who was his boss when they were both coaching the Dynamos junior teams. Chuma himself said that as a Dynamos son he was prepared to serve the club in whatever capacity and would do his best to ensure Dynamos’ continued success in Zimbabwe and Africa.

Chuma was part of the Dynamos technical department on Sunday when Dynamos beat rivals Highlanders 2-0 to lift the Independence Trophy. Dynamos defender Guthrie Zhokinyu and chief striker Cuthbert Malajila were on target for Dynamos.

Dynamos are on April 25 set to host Botswana’s Gaborone United in the second round of the Caf Champions League. Dynamos need a healthy lead at the National Sports Stadium to entertain any chances of qualifying for the lucrative mini league stage of this competition.

The little known Botswana side shocked the African football fraternity when they eliminated South African glamour club Orlando Pirates in the preliminary stages of the Caf Champions League.
