The radio said Innocent Makamure, who worked for the CIO in Manicaland province, confessed to villagers in Murambinda in the same province that he was part of a group of hit men who targeted known MDC supporters in the area for harassment and torture as punishment for not backing Mugabe.
Quoting relatives of Makamure, Radio VOP said the CIO operative suddenly disappeared days after his confession to the villagers and his whereabouts remain unknown.
I was used for peanuts; I did not gain anything in my life by beating people. I violently campaigned for President Mugabe towards the June run-off elections. All I know is that I was used and I am no longer interested in such activities again, Makamure is quoted as telling the villagers.
One of Makamures relative told Radio VOP that he fears for the worst for the agent. He never came back after he went to the beer hall, it is now close to a week while he is AWOL. His phone is switched off, we think something bad has happened to him. We have made a police report, said the relative, who declined to be named for fear of victimisation.??
Manicaland provincial police spokesman Philip Makomeke confirmed that Makamures relatives have filed a report with the law enforcement agency, adding that secret agents matter was being treated as missing persons case.
