The PSL said that their no show violated the rules and regulations governing football. Premier Soccer League secretary-general Sihlangu Dlodlo told The Zimbabwean that Dynamos would be summoned to a disciplinary hearing where they would answer charges of bringing the game of football into disrepute. “The rules are very clear on such issues. We are only waiting for a report from the match official before we take a decision but such actions warrant punishment,” said Dlodlo.
Bindura referee, Richard Mwondok,a who was supposed to handle the match, cancelled it after Dynamos failed to show up. The Bindura referee reportedly arrived at Rufaro with his assistants but found that only Gunners were at the match venue. They gave a 30-minute grace period for the team to turn up, but were left with no option except to cancel the match.
A number of fans had, however, already paid their way into the stadium. According to Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) they had been directed by the Government to cancel all the matches involving the four teams taking part in the Independence Cup matches.
However, the PSL said the short notice to cancel the games gave them no time to consider it and maintained that Dynamos had a case to answer as they violated the rules and regulations of the topflight league. Gunners, Dynamos, Highlanders and Bantu Rovers are the teams that participated in the Uhuru Cup. Dynamos won the trophy after beating Highlanders 2-0 on Sunday.
