Econet opens new call centre

econetHARARE Zimbabwes largest mobile phone operator Econet Wireless last week opened the country's largest and most sophisticated call centre to handle increased traffic from its growing subscriber base as the company ramps up investment into its customer service systems.

Econet chief executive Douglas Mboweni said the opening of the new call centre would support the huge growth in subscriber numbers, which has seen the company targeting five million subscribers by the end of the year.

Our focus remains fixed on the customer, and this facility is designed specifically to provide up-to-the-second solutions to our growing family of subscribers,” Mboweni said.

Econet has over the past 12 months invested heavily into expansion, resulting in unprecedented growth in its subscriber base, which now stands at over four million customers.

The older call centre was no longer able to cope with the huge volume of calls from the expanding subscriber base.

The new call centre, housed in a new purpose-built building, will carry more staff and state-of-the-art equipment to receive a larger volume of traffic from customers.

In addition to the call centre, the programme of investment will also see the rollout of more Econet service centres across the country and also investment into technology that improves the companys interaction with customers.

The commissioning of the call centre comes as Econet’s investment into customer care is winning international recognition.

Econet has over the past two months been awarded the Africa Telecom People Award for best Voice Operator for Eastern and Southern Africa for 2009, and also the Global Award for Perfection, Quality and Ideal Performance, awarded in Germany last week.
