MUSHUMBI POOLS - A two year-old boy was trampled to death by a marauding elephant after he slipped from his mothers back who was also trying to escape.
Police said the boy was sitting in the shade with his mother when a charged jumbo suddenly appeared from the other side. The mother picked his son and put him on her back and ran into a sorghum field.
The charged elephant followed and unfortunately the mother was tripped and the boy fell on the ground. She got up and ran away leaving the boy. The elephant lifted the boy with its tusk and trampled him down until he died.
By the time the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority arrived at the scene the boy was dead. Villagers appealed to Parks officials to control the wild animals from straying from the nearby parks.
