The instruction not to attend the funerals is coming from the ward Councilor Kudakwashe Marekera, Zanu (PF) ward chairman Batsirai Muronza and war veteran Tendai Zihwa.
“According to MDC ward Chairman Fungai Svisviro, whose relative Agrippa Svisviro is also among the Zanu (PF) activists blocking people from attending funerals and other traditional rites, the latest move by Zanu (PF) supporters has left the ward divided and threatens to tear apart the traditional moral fabric of our society.
“We are not allowed to come anywhere near a funeral of a Zanu (PF) supporter as they say we will contaminate them by our association with the MDC, some of our relatives and friends have been buried in our absence,” Svisviro said.
According to the report that the MDC leadership in the area wrote to the partys National Organising Committee, village heads and traditional leaders have been instructed to prevent MDC supporters from mixing with Zanu (PF) supporters.
“One of our supporters passed away in February and we had to carry her to another village for proper funeral procedures, this is the case in all the other villages,” said Svisviro.
